IAM/Patent deals market dips again as NPEs tighten their grip on the buyside
Patent sales deals have dropped to its lowest level since 2018 in the US, while the number of assets changing hands also fell compared with the first six months of 2020. The number of US patent sales dropped again in the third quarter, falling to a level not seen since Q2 of 2018. Overall a total of 284 transactions were concluded between July and the end of September, down from 297 in the second quarter and from 342 in the third quarter of 2019, according to data from AST. The volume of assets changing hands also fell to 3,931, down from just under 7,500 in the second quarter of this year – but up on the 3,549 assets which were transacted in Q3 2019.
